SAGAING DIVISION – In a campaign to collect signatures against the junta conscription law in Salingyi Township, members of the junta council’s own political front, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), also joined on their own free will, reported the residents.
In addition to the on ground protests and strikes against the conscription law, there have also been a campaign to collect signatures to protest against it in Salingyi Township and the junta supporter USDP members were said to have personally signed the campaign saying they don’t support the conscription law.
“On March 25, under the lead of Salingyi Township People’s Administration Body and the cooperation of Monywa University Students’ Union and Shwebenji Multi-Villages Protest Column, there was a protest against the illegitimate conscription law. Over 1,000 civilians joined the protest. Following that, on the day to collect signatures, every person in the village participated. What was strange is that even the USDP members came to sign of their own will without being pressured,” said a responsible person from Salingyi Township Strike Force.
