SOUTHERN SHAN STATE – It is reported that the military council troops at the gate of Nampoon Village, Nyaung Shwe Township, severely beat three locals from Yaypu Village who passed through the gate on Sunday (April 21).
The three residents of Yaypu Village; Khun Kyaw Win (23), Khun Wai Khan (18), and Kyaw Ye (16) who passed through the Nampoon Gate were reportedly beaten by the military council for no apparent reason.
“That place is an intersection. To get around, you have to go through it. We are afraid of the junta troops. They have been arbitarily beating (the passersby),” said a local.
The military council, which has been fighting fiercely on the side of the Moebye-Pekhon border and suffering many casualties, is increasing inspections at this gate and is beating and torturing passersby for no reason.
On April 3rd, Mr. Khun Thi Pe of Nambo Village, who was unable to pay 588,000 Kyats demanded by the junta subordinate PNO Militia to avoid serving in the military, was killed in a battle at Pekhon. His funeral was reportedly held with the money raised by locals.
