TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The People’s Defence Force (PDF) members said that there was a fierce battle in Thakyet Village for half a day between the military soldiers and the joint revolutionary forces on Monday (November 6).
On Monday afternoon, joint revolutionary forces reportedly had a fierce battle against the 70-strong military column that invaded Kanankwin Village in Thakyet Village Tract.
“From noon until sunset, the firefight went on and off,” said a local PDF member from Tanintharyi.
While the fight was going on, the Maotong based junta artillery unit 306 fired 120 mm heavy weapons toward Thakyet Village Tract, which is more than ten miles away from them, according to residents of Maotong.
According to the PDF members, there were junta casualties during the battle.
The military soldiers were present in the vicinity of Thakyet Village the next morning and residents said that tensions rose between the sides.
Due to the clashes, many residents of Thakyet and Kawtaw Villages are fleeing to nearby areas, stated the residents.
In Tanintharyi Township, which has been declared under martial law, there were at least eight clashes and shoot-outs last October.
