SAGAING DIVISION – The locals reported that three members of a merchant family in Tamu were robbed and killed by the junta-backed Pyu Saw Htee militia group.
On the night of July 24, seven Pyu Saw Htee members reportedly broke in and robbed the home of Ms. Aye, a merchant living in Sandaku Ward. The robbers then reportedly killed Ms. Aye, her son, and her daughter.
“The attack happened before nightfall. It’s a time when only Pyu militias walk around. The culprits were also those Pyu members. All residents know about it,” said a local of Sandaku Ward.
Ms. Aye’s husband was in Moreh, India, and her eldest son was out of the house so they made it out alive. During that incident, Ms. Aye, (48), her son Pyae Hlyan (16), and her daughter Ms. Nyein Nyein (21) were killed.
“Mr. Pyae Hlyan was asked to leave the house and get the phone. The robbers reportedly threatened to kill his mother and sister if he didn’t come back. When the child returned with the phone they killed all three family members,” said a resident of the neighborhood.
People close to the junta police and the locals reported that the culprits who robbed and killed Ms. Aye’s family were Pyu Saw Htee militia members.
It is said that Ms. Aye’s husband and elder son are fleeing in fear of being arrested and getting killed. Therefore, the funeral of the victims had to be done by the ward, in the absence of their close family members.
It has been reported that the military council arrested a person who led the funeral of Ms. Aye’s family and the detainee is reportedly in the custody of the Tamu Police Station.
