MYANMAR – Myanmar Chemical and Machinery (MCM), a notorious Myanmar military arms broker, twice imported Chinese-made Sinotruk military trucks through its intermediary company, Golden Mega Power Co., Ltd., according to April 2023 trade data.
The Golden Mega Power Company, which was established in February 2022, is controlled by Mr. San Aung, and he is also a director of Myanmar Amethyst Trading Co., Ltd., based on the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) records, the Justice for Myanmar group reported. It also said that the parent company of Myanmar Amethyst Trading Co., Ltd is Myanmar Chemical and Machinery (MCM), a military brokerage company.
It was reported that Canada, US, and UK have imposed sanctions against MCM company, and the EU has sanctioned MCM chairman, Mr. Aung Hlaing Oo. The reason for the UK sanctioning MCM, which acted as Sinotruk’s representative in Myanmar, was to describe MCM as “a major source of military and commercial support for the warring group”.
Although Sinotruk shareholder TRATON GROUP said in February 2022 that Sinotruk has stopped all sales to MCM, the export, and sale of Sinotruk military vehicles through Golden Mega Power indicates that the military junta continues to import and use Sinotruk vehicles through MCM’s intermediary company.
Therefore, the Justice for Myanmar group pointed out and criticized the need to urgently impose sanctions on the entire MCM network, including Golden Mega Power and Myanmar Amethyst, which supply arms and military-civil dual-purpose goods to the Myanmar military junta.
