TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The junta artillery battalion based in east Mawtone of Tanintharyi Township recklessly shelled the villages in its vicinity and a villager was killed by the shelling, reported the local residents.
Artillery battalion 306 fired unprovoked, over ten rounds of 81mm shells, into the surrounding villages at around 8 p.m. on September 24.
One such shell fell in front of a house in east Mawtone Village Tract and killed Mr. Ti Nge who was in his thirties.
“He went out to close the front door after hearing the sound of heavy artillery fire. The shell landed just at that time and hit him. Even the internal organs were spread out,” said a local resident.
She continued that although it was arranged for him to be sent to the hospital, he died on the spot due to internal bleeding.
Mr. Ti Nge’s house is reportedly less than one mile from the junta artillery battalion and the shelling is said to have destroyed two houses including his house.
The junta heavy artillery fire on September 24 night also landed in the villages such as east Mawtone Village, Zalone Village, Htonnwe Village and Banlamut Village.
