SHAN STATE-Residents of Kyaung Gyi Su Quarter in Taunggyi report that local officials are urging each household to send at least one person to attend a meeting under the pretext of volunteer work.
In reality, since no one is attending the military junta meeting, people are being called under the pretext of volunteer work to gather at the No. 20 Primary School on June 8, according to the sources.
A resident of Ward 12 said, “How do we know this? Because local officials and influential people have told us. This has never happened before. Those who are already willing to go are negotiating whether to agree, vote, or contribute money for the military service.”
In most quarters of Taunggyi, the military junta council usually recruits young attendees of such meetings directly for military junta service, so he warned that only the elderly are advised to attend.
Residents report that returning students in boarding houses near Taunggyi University in Kyaung Gyi Su Quarter are immediately summoned and recruited for military junta service upon their arrival home.
A person close to the local officials said, “They don’t even send invitations because they’re afraid people will find out. Last time, no one came when they called for a market price survey. It’s the son of the 100-household head who is doing this since his father passed away.”
It is also reported that since around mid-May, the residents of the Bhayar Phyu Quarter in Taunggyi have been taking turns delivering packed meals daily to new recruits of the Pa’O National Army (PNA) who are undergoing military training at the artillery unit.
