MAGWAY DIVISION- Mr. Aung Ko (Aka Mr. Aung Aung), who won the 2020 election as National League for Democracy (NLD) Parliament Representative in Taungdwingyi Election Region-1, and his relatives were reportedly arrested by the military council and their whereabouts are still unknown.
At around 6 p.m. on May 9, Mr. Aung Ko Ko was reportedly arrested on the highway near Htaukkyant War Cemetery in Yangon and since then he couldn’t be reached, stated a person close to him.
“The Hluttaw (Parliament) representative and two women related to him in Yangon were reportedly arrested. When enquiring about them in Insein Police Station, an officer replied that they were not at the station and he had no information on them. He told me to wait for about a week and come again,” said a close friend of the Parliament Representative
After the arrest of Mr. Aung Ko Ko, It is reported that Ms. Aye Aye Lin and niece Ms. In Kyin Nyo, who live in Aung San Ward, Insein Township were arrested on the same day at 9:40 p.m.
Similarly, Mr. Win Myint Hlaing (Aka Mr.Hlaing), the National League for Democracy Party’s Parliament Member from Taungdwingyi Region No. 2, was also arrested on November 8, 2021 and taken to Daungnay Prison. He was then charged with a total of 19 cases.
On June 21, 2022, Mr. Win Myint Hlaing was sentenced to 25 years in prison for 5 cases, including Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
Much later, on October 31, he was charged with additional 14 cases including Anti-Terrorism Act; Article 50 (a), Section 51 (c), Section 52 (a), and Section (54), and reportedly received 148 years prison sentence.
