TANINTHARYI DIVISION- According to locals, a mother and daughter who were collecting firewood at Yaykhanchaung Village reportedly received shrapnel injuries due to the Junta’s heavy weapon shellings.
The injured Mrs, Naw Ki Tote in her thirties, and her 13-year-old daughter Naw Weifa. Locals said that the daughter’s two fingers and both legs below the ankles were lacerated and the mother received shrapnel injuries all over the body mainly on the head, arms, and thighs.
“The mother and daughter fell into in a big round hole. The young lady’s leg was torn apart.” said a woman from the Yaykhanchaung village.
The woman said that the place where the heavy weapon exploded was at the far end of the village. Normally, when the military council fires a heavy weapon, they usually fire three to five bullets, but that morning they only fired once.
“The victims were absentminded. The mother was hit in the head. The young woman is semi-conscious. She couldn’t even answer her father’s name,” said a local philanthropist.
According to the order of the military council soldiers from the checkpoint in front of the Infantry Battalion (556) based in Zawel Village, the two injured ladies were taken to the military hospital in Myeik City and are receiving treatment.

On the 25th of April, when a shell fired by the military council ablaze a house on Htein Thit Village Road, Longlon (A) Quarter, and killed an old woman.
According to information obtained by the local news agency, more than 23 civilians were injured and 2 were killed due to landmines and heavy artillery shells fired by the military council last March.
