TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The allied Revolutionary Forces of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), Brigade 4 and 6, and People’s Defence Force (PDF) reportedly attacked and acquired the junta’s Maw Hta camp in Dawei District of Karen National Union (KNU), stated Karen National Union (KNU) Central.
It was said that the joint forces combated and occupied the junta’s Maw Hta camp in Htee Mo Pwa of Mergui – Tavoy (Tanintharyi) District, on April 24.
The terrorist junta Infantry Battalion 19 had been based in this area since 1997. Battalion 27 and 12 of KNLA and the allied Revolutionary Forces were able to complete the attack and captured the junta base as well as some weapons and ammunition, reported along with photo records.
All of the junta soldiers in Maw Hta base had fled into Thailand territory. Maw Hta base is situated on the Myanmar -Thai border area, and the junta soldiers deserted their base, resulting in the base vetting captured with minimum effirt, said Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Saw Hmu Gay of KNLA Battalion 12 and 27.
“There were no casualties on our side. We have not been able to confirm any injuries or deaths on the enemy side. We did not see the enemy when we were in the base or when we were fighting. They could not ask for air support attacks or reinforcements, when we penetrated their base with a large force. They only fired a few shots, and when the situation turned bad, they retreated,” Lt. Col. Saw Hmu Gay said.
The Commanding Officer showed the weapons and ammunition seized from the junta’s camp including more than 30 different weapons and ammunition and a lot of military equipment.
On April 15, the joint forces of KNLA and PDF intercepted the junta battalion leaving their base on the border area, in the territory of KNU Brigade 4 in Dawei District, killing six junta soldiers while 48 including commanding officer Lt. Col. Aung Hein surrendered and 67 different types of weapons and ammunition were seized.
