SAGAING DIVISION – It was reported that due to sudden heavy rain and strong wind in Depayin Township, many houses in five villages, including stupas and monasteries, were destroyed, according to Depayin Township-IDP Support Group.
On May 1st in the evening, due to sudden strong wind and hailstorm, stupas and monasteries , including houses from Taedaw, Thayat Kan, Kine kan, Ma ohn and Myin Tan villages, located at the eastern part of Depayin township were destroyed.
Among the villages affected by the strong winds, more than 100 houses in Thayat kan village were damaged. In Kaikan village, almost the entire village was damaged, including the houses damaged by arson attack. It was learnt that some villages have been burnt down by the terrorist army.
Similarly, on May 1 at 4:00 p.m., houses were destroyed by strong winds, and trees fell down in Monywa, according to local residents.
As a result of the heavy rain and wind, the roofs of houses were blown away in many neighborhoods of Monywa, and trees and branches fell down.
“Starting at 4 p.m. in the evening, the wind and heavy rain started from the northwest, and lightning continued to strike. It was very severe and lasted for about 30 mins or 45 mins,” said a resident.
Branches of trees fell on the main roads of Monywa, such as Kyaukka Road and Thasi Road. The local residents and the Monywa Social Assistance Associations had to immediately start helping.
