SAGAING DIVISION – The Buddhist monks of Tabayin Township conducted Pattanikkozzina Strike against the terrorist junta council and marched together with students and civilians on Friday (June 28).
The strike march was led by the S&C Assistance Association for Education and victims of arson and conflicts and began with over 500 participants including monks, civilians, and students.
In addition, defence forces also marched alongside the strike to provide security, according to an official from S&C assistance association.
Pattanikkozzina Strike (a form of protest unique to Buddhist monks where they deny religious services and cut off all interactions) was started by the monks in Chaung U Township on June 23 and the monks from Tabayin, Taze, and Sagaing Townships joined in the following days with the most recent addition of the monks from Monywa and Myaing Townships on June 27.
The monks made a united decision to cease all interactions with the junta regime after the terrorist junta forces shot dead the patron of Winnammaitaryon Seminary, who was also a former member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, on June 19.
