KARENNI STATE-In three to four evacuation (IDP) camps on the west side of Demoso, flu outbreaks had occurred due to the change of season, said Mr. Hlwan, who is helping the IDPs.
During the last week of December, a large number of people caught the seasonal flu. There were more than 30 households and up to 150 people in each IDP camp, and about 75 percent of them reportedly had seasonal flu.
“In the camp I went to, at least one person per house was sick. The whole family, both adults and children, of about three households were sick,” he said.
There is also a shortage of medicine in the evacuation camps in the western part of Demoso. There are also difficulties in obtaining medicine due to the military council road blockage, and some could not afford to buy medicine as the price has skyrocketed.
“Now, there is a shortage of medicine supplies. Assistance is reportedly on the way. Medications for sore throats, blocked noses, and coughs have run out for some time,” said a war refugee. Moreover, as the weather has become very cold, warm clothes and blankets are needed. The conditions are more difficult for the elderly and children.
As the period of fleeing the war has prolonged, people in need of food, shelter, warm clothes, blankets, and medicines are in need and are facing a hard time, said the people fleeing the war.
