MANDALAY DIVISION – In the old city of Bagan in Nyaung U township, the junta council troops have drained and cleaned nearly 100 ponds and watered them for the sake of their fortune, residents said.
Residents said that after the junta leader arrived in ancient Bagan area on May 25th and instructed to clean up the ponds.
“It’s being done continuously. It’s a sense of doing according to the astrology” said a resident of Nyaung U. Residents said that the military council, which was losing to the other side, was only making things for their good fortune.
In addition, the junta council said that they installed the lighting arrester for the protection of the umbrella of the Hteelo Minlo Pagoda.
Burmese people often perform the work of cleaning the lake, which sounds similar to direct pronunciation in ” lifting up the fortune of the people” in Burmese language.
According to the junta council’s plan, 46 ancient lakes were carried out the cleaning process, and as the secondary process, 45 ancient lakes in the old city of Bagan will be recovered. The junta council said that it was to avoid flooding in the Bagan region during the rainy season.
Even though the military council is recovering the ponds for their fortune, it is again asking for donations from the public. However, last year in 2023, more than 240 million Kyats were withdrawn from the regional government’s authorized fund, claiming to repair three large lakes such as Alan Bagan, Mayoe and Nyaung Letphat lakes in Bagan.
