RAKHINE STATE – In Ponnakyun Township,a residual landmine at the train station near the IDP camp in Yoetayote Village had blasted on Sunday (October 8). Eleven-year-old Naytoe Hein was killed on the spot, and eight-year-old Myo Zaw Hein and the six-year-old Myo Chit Oo reportedly were injured during the blast.
The young boy, Myo Zaw Hein, was rushed to Sittwe Hospital due to injury to his private area, while Myo Chit Oo is being treated at the Yoetayote District Hospital as he was not seriously injured.
“The explosion occurred inside the camp at around 11:20 p.m. The place where the camp is now used to be the military council army station area during the first battle. The remnant explosives of the war may have exploded. Currently, the situation is very alarming as we are concerned about another explosion,” said an internally displaced person.
The children who were involved in the incidence were residents of Ponnakyun Township, Buddha Village who have been fleeing the resurgent battle.
In Rakhine State, in 2023, three people were killed and seven were injured due to the explosion of landmines and remnant explosives of war. Likewise, in 2022, at least 10 people were killed and more than 30 were injured due to similar explosions.
