MYANMAR – Some young people in major cities, including Yangon, are being forcefully arrested t by the junta council for no reason, and some detained youths are sold as permanent soldiers, some family members of who were sold said.
Some young people from the village of Ywatan Shay, Kawt Hmue township, fled to Yangon because they did not want to serve in the military according to the militia’s conscription law. As a result of such evasion, a young man was arrested by the junta council troops for not being on the guest list at Dala township.
fter being arrested, he arrived at the Thanlyin Military Recruitment Battalion. If the young man works as a permanent soldier in the army, he will be paid 1.5 million Myanmar Kyats.
, and if he wants to send the money back to his family, he can send it. They said that if they can present their grade 12 certificate, they will pay 2.5 million Myanmar Kyats.
“He was arrested because he did not register the guest list at the house he was avoiding because he wanted to run away from being recruited for military service. He was called by the army. He called and said that if he was to be a permanent soldier, he would get 15,00,000. If he passed grade 12, he could join the navy. He said that he will be paid 25,00,000. That is not related to the law of military service. He said that it is a regular recruitment of soldiers,” said a relative of the arrested youth.
The relative of the arrested youth requested that the name of the arrested youth not be mentioned for the security of the youth who is currently in the army.
An army source from Than Lying said that it is true that the soldier trade market continues to develop and that the officers who will be promoted must recruit new soldiers for the army. Therefore, he said that the recruitment market is still developing.
“It is not related to the military service law. To recruit new permanent soldiers, if a soldier is brought into the army if they can read and write, they will pay 1.5 million MMK and 2.5 Million MMK if they have a grade 12 education,” said a Thanlyin Navy source.
The War on Terrorism Council is currently checking young people for the 2nd batch of militia service and arresting them for various reasons. Some of the arrested youths were recruited as soldiers under the militia law, while others were sold as permanent soldiers.
