MANDALAY DIVISION – More than 40 households and 250 peasant families are homeless in Pyin Oo Lwin Township, Kwel Nwar Htout village tract, Thayar Aye village, as they were forced to move out by the Pyin Oo Lwin township administrator, saying that it was an encroachment area, but on September 16, the junta army and general administration have destroyed the houses.
The people who live in Thayar Aye Village, Pyin Oo Lwin Township are those who have planted and farmed on the land since 1988, and are not squatters. Thayar Aye village Plot No. 706-B Land area 60.32 acres within Ownership No. 11, with a household of 250, more than 40 families live there. Suddenly, a sign has been put up saying that the state-owned land must not be encroached on, and on September 16, the township administrator threatened to bulldoze them if they did not move. After that, the local people told that the houses were destroyed by force.
“All the houses have been destroyed. They shouted that we have to move out within 30 minutes because we invaded the state-owned land and lived there. There is only one bricks house in the village. All the rest of the houses were destroyed. Barbed wire fence has been made from the entrance to the village. After 4:00 p.m. yesterday (September 16), when the villagers went to collect the remaining items, the army confiscated two phones. The junta soldier punched two people. A woman was also slapped,” said a local resident.
