MANDALAY DIVISION – Displaced people and locals reported that the terrorist junta traffic police joint forces seized and extorted 300,000 MMK per unlicensed car among the evacuee cars that were heading to Pyinoolwin.
On June 29, the wartime evacuees fled to Pyinoolwin holding white flags, and the terrorist junta traffic police joint forces blocked and inspected the evacuee cars at the exit of Pyinoolwin. During such inspection, unlicensed cars were captured and extorted 300,000 MMK per car.
“They captured the unlicensed cars among evacuee cars from areas such as Nawnghkio, Mogoke, and Kyaukme, at Wet Wun X-ray checkpoint. They asked for 300,000 MMK for a car. We had been forced to pay. Our wartime evacuees were fleeing in feasible ways, and had no opportunity to choose between licensed and unlicensed vehicles,” said a displaced person.
At present, the people of Mogoke Town are trying to evacuate from the town and trying to go to Mandalay and Pyinoolwin. Currently, hundreds of wartime evacuees’ cars leaving Mogoke stuck on the way.
“People from Mogoke are trying to get out. There are hundreds of cars stuck on the east-west road from Aung Thit Lwin to Kyauk Phar. Some of the cars going down to Mandalay from Mogoke have stopped and many have turned back. The situation on the road is also unsecured,” said a wartime evacuee of Mogoke Township.
The fighting has been reoccurring between the northern allied Revolutionary Forces in Nawnghkio, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, and Mongmit townships in Shan (North) State, and Mogoke Township in Mandalay Division, starting on June 25.
