RAKHINE STATE – Some families of junta’s border guard polices reported that junta council listed 193 members of the Border Guard Police as missing and the families are no longer being paid.
193 border guard policemen deployed at Buthidaung Township including those from No(8) Border Guard Police force, have been listed as missing and salaries not paid starting from May.
“As he is on the missing list, even half of the salary is not given. They (junta council) said we have to wait for 6 months. If there is no contact, we (the family) have to move out from the given dormitories,” a family member of a border guard policeman who went missing on duty in Buthidaung explained.
All the military council camps in Buthidaung Township have been seized by Arakan Army (AA) on May 18. On May 18, junta council’s artillery battalion (378), light battalions (234), (345), (352), other artillery battalions, and support battalions, garrison engineer battalion (GE) including Buthidaung Strategic Headquarters, were captured. On May 14, light battalions (353), (535),(263), and (233) were seized. Border Guard Force (3) was on May 13 and Border Guard Force (8) was captured on May 16 respectively.
Similarly, the military council forces in Maungdaw Township of Rakhine state, especially the border guards, have been listed as missing, and the remaining family members have not received their salaries. The family members of the victims said that the policemen who are on the front lines and risking their lives are not getting paid.
A family member of the Maungdaw Border Guard said that junta council could send weapons and ammunition to the Maungdaw area and but giving multiple reasons not to pay their salaries.
