SAGAING DIVISION – 96 DoNation, an IDP charity group donated over 70 million Kyats to 199 fire victim households from a village in Shwebo Township, according to the person in charge.
Each household from the village, raided and torched by terrorist junta forces, was supported 380,000 Kyats.
“They haven’t received this much financial support in a while. They normally receive a bag of rice or 20,000 Kyats. 380,000 Kyats would allow them to build a nice temporary shelter so they were very happy,” said the person in charge of 96 DoNation group, adding that the widows of those killed during the junta raid recounted their experiences and cried. “They are grateful but they were also sad. There were those kinds of situations.”
That village was raided and torched in April of this year and the residents of the village have been staying with relatives or taking shelter at IDP camps since.
The donated funds were said to have been contributed by donors abroad and distributed via 96 DoNation group.
The charity group was first established in 2022 but conducted activities as 96 DoNation starting this February. The group also shared that they plan to continue working for the displaced people and victims of junta arson.
