RAKHINE STATE- Oo June 25, Arakan Army – AA released the footage of the terrorist junta army burning down the World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Waithali village, transporting the materials to their base and preparing for defense.
On June 21, around 5:00 p.m., in Maungdaw Township, the WFP warehouse and some residences in Waithali village were destroyed by the terrorist military council soldiers and their subordinates.
They took away packages believed to be cement from the WFP warehouse, and prepared defenses at the District (rural) Office, according to the Arakan Army – AA statement.
The WFP warehouse has a total of 1,175 metric tons of emergency relief food, which could provide enough food for 64,000 people for a month. The WFP office announced that their staff have not been able to visit the Maung Taw storage facility/ Warehouse since late May due to the escalating conflict in the Northern Rakhine State.
United Nations World Food Program (WFP)in Yangon, strongly condemns the incidence of looting and burning of WFP’s warehouse in Maungdaw, Northern Rakhine State, last Saturday (22 June). The official statement said that WFP has been gathering detailed information about the incident.
WFP has been providing emergency life-saving food to people affected by the conflict in all parts of Myanmar. And this year WFP reportedly supplied almost one million war-affected persons.
The looting of food and other goods and the destruction of humanitarian buildings in Maungdaw town have undermined WFP’s relief efforts, WFP has stated.
WFP calls on all parties involved in the conflict to immediately stop such actions, to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, and to respect and protect humanitarian supplies and facilities. It must be done so that people in urgent need of assistance can be helped without hindrance and safety issues (by the relief groups).
