KACHIN STATE – The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) launched an attack on the junta checkpoint near Balaminhtin Bridge connecting Myitkyina and Waingmaw at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (April 11).
“There were two attacks. Even the house shook. It was pretty intense. The junta side also fired back,” said a resident of Waingmaw.
Residents shared that gunshots rang out following two explosions but things quieted down around 8 p.m.
Waingmaw is located just six miles away from the city of Myitkyina.
On February 28, a police van on its way back after transporting around 30 prisoners to Myitkyina Prison was attacked on the Myitkyina-Waingmaw Road and a junta policeman was killed in the attack.
KIA-led joint revolutionary forces battled junta council troops in Waingmaw Township from March 8 to March 10 but the situation is calm at the present.
