UNITED STATES OF AMERICA- Mr. Aung Myo Min, Union Minister for NUG Human Rights, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Moe Zaw Oo attended the official launch ceremony of the “Congressional Burma Caucus” held on June 27 in Washington.
The Congressional Burma Caucus group, comprised of US House of Representatives members interested in Myanmar affairs, was formed to have more awareness of the Myanmar issue among the U.S. Upper House and the House of Representatives and lead to effective measures for the people of Burma. Co-Chairman of the Burma Caucus, Congressman Bill Huizenga (Representing the state of Michigan), said that it was formed to encourage the emergence of US government policies beneficial to the people of Myanmar.
The NUG minister stated that the Caucus, with congressmen from the US government of the multi-political parties, would (help us) form beneficial policies for Myanmar people. He also called for the US government to implement stronger policies regarding the Myanmar issue
Bill Huizenga, the co-chairman of the Burma Caucus, also said that efforts are being made to ensure the “Bringing Real Accountability Via Enforcement In Burma” (BRAVE Burma Act) as soon as possible and that would strengthen the sanctions imposed on the Burmese military by the US government. According to that act, the terrorist military group and its affiliates group, including businesses and organizations that are supporting the military that (purposefully) harm the civilian population, would be subject to economic sanction by the President of the United States.
Furthermore, the Parliament of Canada and MP Mr. Garnett Genius, Co-Chairman of Friends of Myanmar Democracy, also attended and promised to continue assisting Myanmar’s democracy as the Canadian Parliament.
