TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The 36th Myanmar-Thai Border Committee meeting, held in Myeik from June 27 to 29, was attended by the team of Thai representatives led by Lieutenant General Prasan Saengsirirak, the co chairman of the Myanmar Thai Border Committee and joint secretary Major General Sombat Boongorkaew and it is said that the Thai military officers will also be visiting Nay Pyi Taw.
In addition, it was revealed that the water freight route through Yangon-Kawthaung-Ranaung as a new form of border trade between Myanmar and Thailand has been implemented, with MV. Beypore Sultan under Gold Shipping Agency Services Limited departing from Yangon Port for Ranaung Port on June 28, shipping Myanmar corn, as the first trip using the new route. The ship will reportedly load up imported goods from Thailand back to Yangon Port.
The junta council announced that businesses can use the newly implemented border trade route between Myanmar and Thailand immediately.
The current border trade routes between the two countries, including the Myawaddy-Yangon Asia Highway and Hpayarthonesu border gate in Karen State as well as the border trade routes in Karenni State are closed due to the battles between the junta council and revolutionary forces.
