KAREN STATE – Local people and military sources reported that junta fighter jets bombed near No. 2 Friendship Bridge in Myawaddy on April 22 in the early morning.
It is said that junta jets dropped around six 500lb bombs at 00:25 and 00:40 on April 22 and the entire town of Myawaddy could feel the tremor from the resulting explosions.
“The (junta) jets came and bombed early in the morning. Three bombs at 12:25 a.m. and three more bombs at 12:40 a.m., a total of six bombs. It was in the area of Bridge No. 2. We don’t know yet the details of the damage but the explosion was very strong. Because they bombed close to the town, you could feel the houses shaking. We also heard continuous gunshots,” said a Myawaddy-based military source.
Due to the junta council carrying out similar bombings and airstrikes in Myawaddy, there have been numerous civilian casualties from April 20 to 22, and at least ten civilians were killed, according to a person assisting the displaced people in Myawaddy.
“The daughter and daughter-in-law of Mr. Kyaw Swar and 14-year-old Mr. Myo Htet Aung died. That’s three deaths. There were also those killed by heavy artillery or bullets in Ward No. 5 and the agriculture zone. According to volunteer organisations, there were around eight deaths. There were at least ten (civilians killed). Many were injured as well. There are a large number of patients from Myawaddy at Maesot Hospital,” said the person assisting the displaced people.
