KAREN STATE – According to the locals, no. 1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship bridge was reopened on the morning of April 27 after closing for 7 days from Myanmar side, in Myawaddy township, Karen state.
It has been reported that starting from 10 a.m. on April 27, No.1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship bridge has re-opened. At the moment, the people from Myawaddy have started crossing the border line to Mae Sot side.
A local mentioned that “it (the bridge ) has re-opened this morning. People are standing in queue to go for Mae Sot. The bridge has re-opened.”
Starting from April 21, since the day when the battles broke out in Myawaddy town, the junta council closed the no.1 Friendship bridge.
Due to the battles, No. 2 Thai-Myanmar Friendship bridge which the cargos had mainly used was damaged. As the dormitories are still under repair, the no.2 Friendship bridge cannot be opened yet.
