KAREN STATE- It has been reported that junta’s commander of Infantry Battalion (IB)-94 based in Shwe Nyaung, southern Shan state, has died in Dawna mountain battle in Karen state.
On May 2, there was a battle between no.55 junta battalion column marching towards Myawaddy and KNLA led revolutionary forces. During that battle, IB-94’s temporary commander Thant Zaw Win died with gunshot wound.
A close person with Shwe Nyaung LIB 94 said, “They offered alms for the fallen battalion commander and other officers at the battalion shrine. We didn’t dare to ask for sure. Everybody was crying. We saw that the monks were praying.”
It has been reported that the dead commander was temporary commander who had not been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and was still at the rank of major. He died with gunshot while he was moved from Pa’O region to Myawaddy and led the battalion of column.
According to strong news source, the father of dead commander, a former junta officer, wrote about his son’s death on social media. He stated that commander of IB 94 Thant Zaw Win (DSA-46) died when he led the reinforcement column to Dawna Mountain.
IB 94 based in Shwe Nyaung was a battalion which control Nyaung Shwe and Inle Lake. They had a lot of exposures with the revolutionary forces in Hsiseng, Hopone, Pinlaung, Pekhon near Pa’O region, Inle Lake area and border of Shan and Karenni States. They often treat harshly to the locals.
