MANDALAY DIVISION – According to the local news sources, TNLA (Ta’ang National Liberation Army) has started conducting offensive attacks on the junta council’s drug checkpoint and the regional police station in Wetwun (Bear) Village, near the border to Nawnghkio Township and Pyin Oo Lwin Township in Mandalay Division.
Starting from 5 a.m. on June 28, TNLA conducted offensive attacks on the junta council checkpoint and police station. As the fascist junta council troops fired heavy weapons back from the 1000 acres farm, the locals have been forced to flee.
A local news source mentioned that “as the battles broke out since the morning, the locals from Wetwun Village and Bant Bwe Kyin Village have to flee towards Mandalay. As the battles are breaking out along the road towards Nawnghkio, the locals can no longer enter Nawnghkio Region.”
At the moment, the people of Pyin Oo Lwin are also feeling anxious and are digging bomb shelters and hundreds of civilian vehicles have left for Mandalay City since the morning of June 28.
A highway bus driver mentioned that “the civilians from Parade, Htonekone and Htonebo Villages are also preparing to flee. If the battles actually broke out, they will be first to to face the battles. Most of the shops in Pyin Oo Lwin have already closed.”
The distance between Wetwun checkpoint and the Defence Service Academy (DSA) in Pyin Oo Lwin is only about half an hour away by car and the high-ranking officials of the junta council also reside there.
