KARENNI STATE – Local people from Hpruso Township are worried about their livelihoods as they are not able to do farming due to the junta army’s shelling of heavy weapons every day.
In addition, plantations have been damaged by animals since the farmers were not able to tend their animals due to firing heavy weapons from junta army, a local resident said.
“People are worried that if they do farming, plantation could end up as food for cattle. There are also people who don’t do farming this year because they are afraid of heavy weapons on the way to farm” said a farmer from the Hpruso region.
But there are some residents who have been fleeing war in Hpruso Township who returned to their homes and took risk to do farming whenever fighting stopped.
“I want to go home, it’s not convenient for people who want to work as weapons are randomly fired into the village,” said one of the Hpruso residents.
The displaced people are hoping to be able to return and harvest the fields. The war displaced in Hpruso Township who can’t do farming for their livelihoods had to rely on donations and it had been long that those donors came as it is difficult to reach to IDP camp.
“In our refugee camp, there have been no donors for a long time, and some people fleeing the war are already starving. Even if we were able to get some funds, it is not enough for all, and we don’t know how to find donors,” said one of the volunteers helping the war displaced people.
According to the list of social organizations, there are more than 10,000 people fleeing the war in Hpruso Township.
