NAY PYI TAW – It was found out that the junta investigation bureau that inspected the items confiscated as stated property from the ex agriculture and irrigation minister Myint Hlaing had swept the gold and precious gemstones for fakes, leading to the arrest of officers and soldiers, according to several junta sources.
Myint Hlaing was charged and arrested by the junta council for past bribery on April 10 and his properties were sealed. Then after searching through his house, some firearms, gold bars and gemstones were confiscated. The search was seizure was carried out by junta investigation bureau and the items seized as stated property were submitted to the junta central bank. In the process, they switched the gold bars with fake gold and the involved junta soldiers and officers from the bureau were arrested when it was discovered in an inspection.
Meanwhile, Myint Hlaing is being charged under section 55 of the bribery act for seizing multiple acres of farmland in eastern Dagon Myothit Township under his son-in-law’s name during his tenure as the agriculture and irrigation minister.
Myint Hlaing was also a lieutenant general and held the position of the commander in chief of the air defence force in the junta military. He became the minister of agriculture and irrigation during the term of Thein Sein government from 2011 till 2016 and was an influential leader among the junta political front USDP as well as a trusted aid of the former military dictator Than Shwe.
