SAGAING DIVISION – According to the defence teams, the junta group burned down the residents’ houses, monastery and IDP shelters in Wetlet Township at around 12:00 noon on June 27.
The junta forces, nearly 50 strong with two vehicles from Sint Gu Township, entered Wetlet Township while firing weapons, and burned not only more than 40 houses in Thayet Pin Su Village but also Myin Hlal Taung Monastery which is located at the north of the village and IDP shelters.
“While they (the junta troops) were burning the houses and the monastery, there was a brief clash with the defence forces. It is still unknown how many shelters were caught in the fire until now. It is heard that about 40/50 houses were caught in the fire,” said an official from GZ Special Task Force – Wetlet.
It is also said that the junta column is still around Thayet Pin Su Village, so the local residents have not yet returned to the village and have to stay in the nearby villages and forests.
“There are nearly 200 households in Thayet Pin Su Village. This is the second time the village was burnt down. I don’t remember how many houses were burned in the first time. Until now, neither the villagers nor the people fleeing the fire have returned to the village,” the official said.
The IDP shelters that the junta council troops burned down are the shelters of internally displaced people from Wetlet and Sint Gu Townships. At the moment, it is also reported that that the junta military column continued to set fire to Ngarpanchaung Village.
