KARENNI STATE – The coalition of revolutionary forces were said to have cleared the land mines planted by the junta forces in a village in Hpruso Township, Karenni State on January 9.
“About 30 land mines have been cleared but it is still difficult to find and clear all the land mines,” said a member of the revolutionary force.
The cleared land mines were mainly No. 14 mines and it is said that 27 mines were cleared on January 9 alone.
The land mines are still present in the villages where the junta forces have stationed and due to the overgrown bushes, it is difficult to clear all.
In November 2023 when the 11.11 military operation started, the junta forces stationing in the villages in Hpruso Township retreated and planted the mines in the villages, explained the coalition of revolutionary forces.
A 33 year old internally displaced man who had gone back to cultivate the ground nuts in his native village reportedly stepped on a land mine in Hpruso Township in October 2023 and lost his leg, as said by the local people. The revolutionary comrades urged the local civilians to be aware of the land mines.
All the local villagers from the village where the revolutionary forces cleared the land mines had been internally displaced for about two years. There are 84 houses with over 400 people in the village.
