NORTHERN SHAN STATE – Residents said that gunshots have been heard every night since May 26th, when the mine explosion occurred in Kyaukme in front of One Love Hotel on May 26 at 8 p.m.
“They are shooting from the 502 battalion. I can hear the sound from that side. The military situation in Kyaukme is unstable again,” said a local.
The military council has issued a curfew after 7:00 p.m. since May 27th, and gunshots are heard every night.
“The terrorist army is shooting. I don’t understand why. They are actually afraid of a battle. They don’t dare because China told them not to fire,” said a local.
Light Infantry Battalion (501) and (502) are military council strongholds in Kyaukme. There was no major battle during the 1027 operation in Kyaukme. However, on December 7, 2023, a front-line camp in Kyaukme was attacked and captured by the joint forces of TNLA and Mogok strategy PDF, and two members of the junta council and three policemen were captured as prisoners of war.
During Operation 1027, which began on October 27, 2023, in northern Shan State, the three northern alliances captured 17 cities.
As the northern brotherhood alliances prepared to continue occupying Lashio, where the Junta Council’s North-eastern Military Headquarters is located, with the mediation of China, between the Junta Council and the Three Northern Brotherhood Alliances, the Haigen Armistice Treaty was signed on January 11, 2024.
According to that agreement, there has been a temporary ceasefire in northern Shan State since January 11th for more than four months. The three northern brotherhood alliances have repeatedly stated that the junta council has repeatedly violated the armistice.
Some local residents said that the junta council has been reinforcing more military forces to cities such as Lashio and Muse in recent months and preparing defense.
