MYANMAR – SAC-M, the special advisory council for Myanmar formed to guide the country towards democracy after the military coup in 2021, announced that the junta council can no longer control 86% of the country where 67% of the population live.
SAC-M, founded by former UN officials Yanghee Lee, Marzuki Darusman and Chris Sidoti, has consistently published updates on the situation inside Myanmar after the military coup and has been urging the international community to cut off the flows of finance and arms to the junta regime and to sanction the junta council.
Its latest report mentioned that the junta council no longer has control of 86% of the country where 67% of the population live after revolutionary forces achieved victory after victory in territory seizing battles. It was also reported that the junta council did not make any comments when contacted by the media regarding the report.
At present, the junta council is only able to control several main cities such as Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon and has lost control of the frontier regions in northern Shan, Rakhine, Chin, Kachin and Karen States.
Crisis Group with focused reports on Myanmar affairs has also announced that the neighbours of Myanmar should discuss with NUG and ethnic revolutionary organisations as border trade will no longer be conducted smoothly with the junta regime that has lost control of the border territory and also advised for humanitarian aids to flow via the NUG and those organisations.
