RAKHINE STATE – The genocidal junta army launched artillery attacks on the villages in Shwe Hlay Village Track of Thandwe Township, on the night of June 20, and also bombarded with its fighter jet, on June 21, according to locals.
Ten of thousands of residents have been forced to flee due to the intense fighting in May, and the villagers have returned to their homes due to the stopping of fighting, since the beginning of June.
“There has been no fighting around the Shwe Hlay Village for a long time. That’s why the villagers were also returning. Not only the villagers, but also the people of Gawt Village and Ngapali Town were also sheltering in those villages. They were moving around here and there, where there was no fight. People were running away from the fight in such way. But the junta army launched artillery attacks and aerial bombings with its fighter jets over there,” said a local.
On June 20, at around 11:00 p.m., the junta’s artillery battalions stationed on the hills in Thandwe Town, fired artillery shells on Shwe Hlay Village, killing three displaced people and injuring two others.
The deceased were identified as Ms. Kyi Sein, 88, Ms. Saw Thein, 54, and Ms. Khin Yee, 50s, and the injured were Mr. Tun Lin Zaw, 17, and Ms. Ma Nge, 70.
There were skirmishes between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta army near Ngapali Town, and AA reportedly carried out offensive attacks on Light Infantry Battalion – 566 in Ngapali Town.
