SAGAING DIVISION – Clashes occurred in Monywa between the Guerrilla Forces, retreating after the assassination of Junta appointed District Administration Officer, and the Junta forces, where three police including a second lieutenant were killed and a guerrilla force leader also fell in battle, stated Wolf Guerrilla Force (WGF – Myaing) on Wednesday (June 22).
Mr Than Zaw Htun, a member of the Junta-appointed Monywa Administration Board, was assassinated near Shweeainnan Guesthouse on Kyaukkar Road in Monywa around 7 a.m on Sunday (June 19), stated WGF – Myaing, adding that a shoot out ensued between the members of the Guerrilla Force retreating from the mission and the Junta forces later at 8 a.m near Bandula road swimming pool in Chanmyawadi Residential Ward.
Junta lost three of their troops, second lieutenant police and two police cadets, in the exchange while Bo Layaung of WGF – Myaing also lost his life. WGF also had to give up two pistols, some ammunition and a CZI motorcycle.
“Bo Layaung always refused to be captured alive in battle. He was the production leader of our group,” said leader Miepwar of WGF.
He also mentioned that Bo Layaung left behind a wife and a one year six months old child and requested assistance from the people as the group had to suffer significant losses.
He added that the Junta forces were searching the area, having raised their suspicions against everyone, and refuted their claims that the lawyer from Monywa was taken away after being accused of directing the assassination, saying that WGF has no connection with him.
The online propaganda of the Junta said that they arrested Mr Aung Chan Myae, a lawyer living at Tineyinsayyone 18th Street in Chanmyawadi Residential Ward, Monywa, accusing him of being the chief perpetrator behind the assassination of Mr Than Zaw Htun, the District Administration Board member.
