MYANMAR – The Burmese News International (BNI) community (made up of 15 media groups, including DMG) announced that they condemned and protested against the military council sentencing the Rakhine State-based Development Media Group (DMG) reporter Ko Thet Aung and office worker Soe Win Aung to 5 years in prison each.
On July 1, Mr. Ko Ko Zaw, Chairman of the Policy Committee of Burmese News International (BNI), said, “The criminal action taken against journalists for their work is a flagrant violation of the freedom of the press. The detainment, laws and punishments used (by junta regime )are completely unfair,” he said.
DMG reporter Ko Thet Aung was arrested by the military council for taking photos of the Alms offering Event held on (the Fullmoon day of Thadingyut) October 29, 2023, at the Wingabar Field in Sittwe, Rakhine State.
Reporter Mr. Thet Aung and office staff member Mr. Soe Win Aung were sentenced to five years (each) in prison by the Military Council on June 28.
