
“The fighting broke out when junta forces invaded the area where the base camps of the KLNA (Karen National Liberation Army) are set up” said an Internally displaced person living in the zone.
Yesterday, on the 14th of December, the junta troops entered the artillery area of the KNU Brigade 6, Lay Kay Kaw, Myothit, Myawaddy Township in Karen state. Clashes between the KNU and junta forces started this morning, December 15th, at about 11:15am. Many internally displaced people (IDP) are staying in the area where the fighting broke out.
The following is an interview with one of the IDPs.
Q: Why do the fighting start in Lay Kay Kaw Town?
A: The fighting is happening in KNU Brigade 6 area. The battle started after the military troops invaded the controlled area of the KNU Brigade 6. Small arms and heavy weapons are heard.
Q: Where is the battle ground?
A: it’s happening in most places in Lay Kay Kaw. Lay Kay Kaw View Point artillery area, the southern area near the Yathe cave etc. Heavy weapons are shooting out from the artillery area towards the waterfall side as well. Clashes are happening in many areas.”
