SHAN STATE – The hotels, motels and guest houses in Shan State have been ordered to report their guest list and to register the guests in an attempt to make sure that people revolting against the Junta and those on the Junta’s wanted list are unable to stay there.
The order by the Shan State Department of Hotel and Tourism has been passed down to its subsidiary departments.
It requires all local and foreign guests to be registered daily by 6:30 p.m and the list of the guests shall be emailed to the Shan State Department of Hotel and Tourism.
“It has been ordered before but they are saying it is a must now. There have been cases of people fighting the Junta or fleeing from them getting captured while staying at hotels and guest houses as they travel from city to city and that’s why they ordered that we must not fail to report the guest list,” said a person working in hotel and tourism industry.
In Tachileik, Mr Win Myint from the Tachileik Branch of the Department of Hotel and Tourism is said to have ordered that the personal information of the guests who arrived before 6 p.m have to be filled in guest registration forms and sent to related departments while the list of the guests that arrived afterwards has to be sent to email and Viber groups.
“In Tachileik, as usual, the Department of Hotel and Tourism only sent the order to the hotels they dare to order and turned a blind eye to the places where most Thais and Chinese people are staying. There are places undocumented Thais and Chinese frequently stay but the Department dare not comment on the issue,” said a local business owner.
