KACHIN STATE-The Institute for Strategy and Policy (ISP Myanmar) announced in a statement on September 19 that at least 6,221 houses and buildings were torched by junta forces across Myanmar in the month of August and most of the arson attacks occurred in Sagaing Division, Magway Division and Kachin State.
The number of houses destroyed by atrocious junta’s arson attacks were at least 3,720 houses in Sagaing Division, 2,061 houses in Magway Division and at least 400 houses in Kachin State. Salzin village from Hpakant Township in Kachin State was torched by Junta soldiers.
Houses were torched by military council troops during armed conflicts and some houses were destroyed due to artillery shelling. Junta troops also often raided and burned down the villages without any battle.
Myanmar institute for Strategy and Policy listed that there are at least 36,209 buildings damaged and burnt due to heavy weapons and arson attacks by junta forces from February 1, 2021 to September 15, 2022. Religious buildings were also included among the buildings destroyed by Junta’s arson attacks.
