The KNLA spokesperson Phado Man Man said that yesterday, November 27th, the KNLA took over 3 temporary military bases near Ma Htaw Village, Hpapun, in KNU’s District 5 region.
“These bases are near Ma Htaw Village beside the Hpapun-Kamarmaung road. This Hpapun-Kamarmaung road is the main route of transport for both the junta and the KNU. They have their bases stationed around here. Yesterday, the battle was against the Light Infantry, 407th Battalion. They have around 3 or 4 temporary bases. But we raided, conquered them, and took over. This is the region that falls under KNU Division 5. The fighting continues today but we’ve yet to be informed of casualties”, Phado Man Man said.
In the battle yesterday, some of the junta’s soldiers died and some deserted, while KNLA suffered one casualty.
The junta is transporting rations and ammunition to Kamarmaung and Hpapun along the Thaton-Hpaan road, Wapoetaw branch. The KNLA often intercept these vehicles and battles have been frequent in the last month.
According to Phado Man Man, the KNU is allowing junta soldiers from frontline bases on the Thai-Myanmar boarder to buy food and groceries in nearby villages but the KNLA will not tolerate transport of rations and ammunition and will cut-off the route.
