BAGO DIVISION – There was an air attack by the military council in Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (3) area, Nyaung Lai Pin District. The KNU Central Press Office reported on September 1 morning that there were more civilian casualties due to shelling of heavy weapons.
In Mu (Mone) township and Hsaw Hti (Shwekyin) township in Nyaung Lai Pin District, military council troops targeted the public and intentionally fired heavy weapons into the areas where the public live and work. In addition to civilian casualties, more than 5,600 local residents from eight villages have been evacuated due to the airstrikes.
Because of the air strike carried out by junta council after a battle between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the junta forces near Thit Cha Hsate village in Mone township, total of 5662 villagers from the villages such as Thit Cha Hsate, Po Thosu, Myetye Karin, Myetye Bama, Tai Pin, Kyun Kone, Ushit Khin and Nga Lauk Teik have been displaced. But the date of the battle being fought was not mentioned.
In Shwekyin township, the junta council fired a heavy weapon on August 30, and it exploded in a field near Inbala village. On August 31, the military council troops fired heavy weapon and exploded in Chongin village, destroying a house and injured a civilian.
Junta continued to fire heavy weapons and explosions occurred near Chongin village, but the details of the damage were not yet known.
The Junta Council Army’s attacks by heavy weapons and airstrikes in the KNU areas including Nyaung Lai Pin District often caused civilian casualties.
