KAREN STATE – Karen National Union (KNU) issued a statement on October 14, saying that there are more than 700,000 internally displaced people (IDP) in the KNU territory areas.
More than 717,000 civilians have been forced to flee due to the junta council’s human rights violations and the battles between the fascist junta council troops and the revolutionary forces.
The internally displaced people are from Doo Tha Thu (Thaton) District, Taw Oo (Taungoo) District, Klel Lwee Htoo (Naunglebin) District, Myeik-Dawei District, Mutraw District and Dupalaya District in the Kawthoolei Territory and are facing difficulties for rations, medications and accomodations.
KNU had supported basic foods and other necessary items to around 270,000 IDP from 55,000 families using around nine million Bahts.
As there are many IDP who haven’t received any support, KNU is trying to find solutions to provide them with basic food and other essential assistance.
Since the beginning of 2023, the junta council has increased military operations and continues to commit human rights violations.
Humanitarian aid is urgently needed as the civilians who lived near the battle areas have been forced to flee, leaving their houses and their businesses behind.
If the public would like to support the IDP, they can contact the KNU Information department.
