BAGO DIVISION – Junta artillery strikes into Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 3 Nyaunglebin District during the five days from December 3 till 7 killed one civilian and injured seven, KNU Central announced on December 8.
During those five days, junta battalions and camps fired 62 rounds of heavy artillery into civilian villages in Shwekyin and Kyaukgyi Townships of Nyaunglebin District.
On December 5, the artillery fired by Peinzalote based junta forces killed 27 year old Mr. Aung Gyi and injured two more people from Nattankwin Village, Kyaukgyi Township and also injured Mr. Htin Sha from Yephyukan Village.
In addition on December 6, Mr. Kyaw Khin from Kywelchan Village was injured by shrapnel from the artillery fired by junta infantry 60.
On the same day, three displaced people: Ms. May Thinzar Moe, Mr. Htet Naing and Ms. Ta Ae Htwe, were injured by the shelling of junta infantry 57 based in Shwekyin Township. Among them, Ms. Ta Ae Htwe was reportedly seriously wounded.
Moreover, at least four civilian homes were destroyed by junta shellings and local residents were also forced to flee, said the residents.
According to KNU, over 70,000 civilians have been displaced by the recent clashes in Mone Township, Nyaunglebin District.
