SHAN STATE – A crime journalist who called the police and made a false report about the presence of People’s Defence Force (PDF) soldiers at a KTV in Aungban, southern Shan State, was reported to have been arrested.
He called and reported to the police that there were PDF forces at the KTV after getting into an argument at the entertainment establishment on February 25.
When investigating, there were no traces of the PDF nor the person who made the report at the KTV.
The person who made the report was found to be crime journalist Khin Maung Htwe (aka) Maung Lay Nge from Naypyidaw Times, who had been sentenced to nine years in prison in 2019 for making threats online using fake accounts and section 66(d). He was released from prison in 2022, pardoned by the junta council.
Khin Maung Htwe (aka) Maung Lay Nge, a resident of Nantawkone Ward in Heho is reportedly detained at Aungban Police Station for defamation and public mischief.
