BAGO DIVISION – According to the close acquaintance to the family, Mr. Tun Tun Oo, who served as the minister of Immigration and Population during the previous NLD government (National League for Democracy), was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the junta council on June 21.
It was known that the kangaroo court of the Paungde prison in the western part of Bago division have sentenced Mr. Tun Tun Oo to a total of six years in prison with two sections under section 505.
According to the close acquaintances of the NLD party, Mr. Tun Tun Oo had to flee since the coup as the junta council has tried to abduct him several times.
In the beginning of December, 2022, the junta council had abducted his daughter and coerced him. So he went to Pyay Regional Command Headquarter and was abducted.
After that, Mr. Tun Tun Oo and his daughter were released with bail. But he was abducted again in 2023 and he was sentenced to six years in prison on June 21.
He contested 2015 general election as the representative of Paungde township constituency no. 2 and won the election. He was assigned as the minister of immigration and population at Bago region government.
In 2020 general election, he contested from the prior constituency and won the election.
