MYANMAR – The Portuguese news agency Lusa reported that the Timor-Leste Embassy in Myanmar was ordered to leave the county for establishing relations with the National Unity Government (NUG) and meeting NUG’s ministers.
The junta council has ordered the expulsion of East Timor’s top diplomat Avelino Fernandes Ximenes Pereira, Chargé d’Affaires in Yangon, by September 1.
President José Ramos-Horta of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste said that, “the military junta’s expulsion of the Timor’s Embassy was a response to protection of human rights and should be proud.”
“As Timor-Leste, condemns the junta’s killing of civilians, women and children, after the military coup. Putin is responsible for crimes against humanity in Ukraine, and the military junta is responsible for war crimes in Myanmar,” said the President of Timor.
Timor-Leste has expressed that it will not join ASEAN if it cannot find a solution to the conflict in Myanmar.
