TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Locals said that the teachers have been collecting money from students’ parents as their salaries in Yephyu Township, Dawei District.
The student’s parents were called to a meeting on Tuesday (June 21) at the Pagoda and asked to pay for the fees.
“Many teachers from Kanpauk High School have joined CDM. A non-CDM staff said that they need to hire teachers from outside because there aren’t enough teachers. So, each student needs to pay 3,000 kyats per month due to financial difficulties,” said one of the student’s parents.
They have been asking for 2,000 kyats per month at the Zimba School in Kalin Aung, according to locals. Other schools have not yet called for meetings, so the situation is not clearly unknown.
A parent of one of the students said that the grade 3 students are being mixed to learn in the grade 5 classes due to the small number of teachers in Kanpauk High School.
Many teachers joined CDM in Yephyu Township, and Kanpauk District is still also a strong area for CDM.
