MYANMAR – It was reportedly known from people close to the junta army that command commanders were summoned to the Defense Ministry headquarters at Naypyidaw and warned regarding their fraudulent withdrawal of reward money claiming People’s Defence Forces (PDF) have returned to the legal fold.
The Defence Minister of junta army called the regional command commanders on June 20 to the headquarters and warned them.
“The military command commanders reported to the higher ups that PDFs surrendered and took the rewards and food rations given. In reality, junta army and People’s Defence Forces are still fighting against each other. These are problems in the army. That’s why the Defence Minister of fascist army had to summon and warn them not to take rewards money claiming that PDF surrendered, using normal civilians,” said the source.
A retired soldier said that the reward fraud was due to the incentive announced by the junta council on May 9 that a reward from 300,000 kyats to 7,500,000 kyats will be granted if a PDF with weapons returned to the legal fold.
“The regional military headquarters announced that PDFs have taken refuge. Later on, PDF side counter-announced that those people are not members of their group. Some junta battalions used criminals related to drugs, robberies and faked them as PDF with weapons. The reward money was shared among the army and criminals,” said the retired soldier.
Recently, news have been speculating in military groups that heads of junta council have been investigating the fraudulent withdrawals from some states and divisions.
As of today, the military council has announced that there are 532 PDFs who have surrendered in some states and regions.
