SHAN STATE – According to the groups of the Pao National Liberation Organization (PNLO), PNLO cooperated with donors to distribute food to Karenni refugees who have fled to the Pao area in southern Shan State as much as they can.
It is reported that there are around 12,000 Karenni refugees who have arrived in the Pao area, and they are in 26 different locations.
PNLO Deputy in Charge of Liaison Office, Captain Khun Thila said that officials in charge of various places have been appointed and are coordinating among them for the tens of thousands of people who have fled the war.
“Our main focus is to go according to their needs. We go according to their requests, their needs, according to their information, according to what they report. It’s not like going on a regular basis. For example, if they informed that they only have food left for the next three days, we will go after making arrangements,” he said.
He added that as there are still only few donors, they can only give to around 400 people at a time.
“The food is distributed, but it is not enough as there are many places and many (displaced) people, but it relieved our needs,” said a female refugee.
It is also said that there are different requirements depending on the place where the refugees are kept. Captain Khun Thila also said that basic necessities like rice, oil and salt have been supplied.
In addition to food, there is also a need for daily items and drinking water, so Captain Khun Thila also requested donors to come and help.
